Unhappy Killing X Server is giving me login window not console

Hi All,
I am currently using fedora core 2 and i want to install Nvidia driver.
First thing to do is to kill Xserver, thus i tried the following thing :

1. CTRL+ALT+F1 then /usr/sbin/gdm-stop
2. CTRL+ALT+F1

On the first example, i have is the Fedora login window, not the usual console.
On the second, it says there is still a Xserver running.

Does someone can help me on how to kill Xserver ?
I had use Mandrake before, and i remember there was an option to deactivate in order to restart in text mode. Any way to do this within fedora ?

Regards,
Pierre

Well it works great ... with a lot of strange messages
I've changed some value within Xorg.conf and i had a beautiful NVIDIA logo after the restart.
Tks a lot !

I think the standard method with Fedora should be "service dm stop", if it is like in Mandrake.
