Question Killing the "timer" on RH 7.3 bootup

When you boot up RedHat 7.3, either from shutdown, or a reboot command... it will sit for 15 seconds on a graphical screen asking what you want to do (and only RedHat distro 7.3 is available).

How does one go about reducing that wait timer to like ... zero, or at most "1"? Surely there is a way?

While I'm at bootup, killing kudzu in the started up list will take out that 20 second "Checking for New Hardware" startup line right? or is that part of something else?

Are you talking about the bootloader screen, grub or lilo?

If so, you can edit the grub.conf file in /boot/grub/

or the lilo configuration file if you are using lilo, but I am not sure where that is.

try

whereis lilo

The line you are looking for is timeout. Make it equal to 0 ( zero ). You'll have to edit one of the following files /boot/grub/grub.conf, /boot/grub/menu.lst, or /etc/lilo.conf. If you have to edit the /etc/lilo.conf file, remember to run /sbin/lilo after you edit it. Otherwise, the changes won't take effect.
