Question kill xserver


i want to kill xfree86 server and use command line konsole in order to install new nvidia driver ????.pkg2.run.

i tried cltrl-alt-backspace but only reloging to kde !!!

my nvidia quadro 4 syne 4 380xgl doesn't have open gl and hw acceleration.

can not play game by using wine or winex because no screen. only flash...

my kernel version is 2.420 mandrake 9.2
my audio via vt8233 chipset build in audio

please help me ! i gonna play 3d game from linux and see how it worked.



i have tried install nvidia driver !!
but it said i need precompilered nvidia interface ???that match my mandrake 9.2 kernel ???
help !!!

what does runlevel 1-7 means ?? what is difference.

Boot your system into runlevel 3.

init 3

Press CTRL+ALT+F1, log in as root, then type in init 3. That will put the computer in runlevel 3 (command line).

You can then install the nVidia package. Don't forget to edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file as per the instructions while still in text mode. (vi is your friend here )
