keystroke for linux

It may sound inept(and trivial) but I'm just wondering is there any standard shortcut key or key-combination for linux users? For instance a single hit at certain key will show the shutdown dialogue box.

It depends on the desktop environment you are using and what comes default with your distro. you can usually define almost any number of keyboard shortcuts you want. For example if you are using GNOME you can run the command 'gnome-keybinding-properties' and define shortcuts to a lot of actions.

I have an inkling that eventually I'll come to this part. I prefer to do this at a later time when I'm confident enough to pull it through.
