Keyring problem

After I log in, I get asked for a password for /usr/bin/nm-applet asking for access to the keyring.

I have tried my password and also the root password, but neither works.

This has just started. I don't remember setting or changing access to this. I don't know what it does anyway.

What should I do ? Can I just log in as root and change whatever needs changing ?

When you first set up the keyring, you will have assigned it a password. It's that password it wants.

The trouble is, I don't think I ever set up a keyring.

Anyway, I logged out, logged in as a different user, posted this question, then logged back in again, and it is no longer asking me for the password.

If it happens again, can I do something about it as root ?

Thanks.

The keyring data should be stored in a hidden directory in your home directory. It will start with a '.' so your best bet is to look through your hidden directories and clear out the setting if you think it is incorrect. You will then have to set it up again.

Okay, thanks, I'll have a go and see what happens.

Probably best to just rename the files or folders, in case removing them entirely breaks your setup!

This is a common complaint about nm-keyring. Check out these threads:
