Keylogger on Linux - Help.

Hey guys, I have downloaded a file called logkeys-0.1.1a.
I unzipped it, but when I try to install (i type "sh install"), it says "/use/bin/install: cannot execute binary file".

By the way, this is on my VPS.

Any help is appreciated. I would be glad to give my VPS info, so that you can personally go on it and fix it.

Thanks

- removed advice based on subject topic - I would however question as to why you are running a keylogger, while not technically illegal, many purposes for them are illegal. Ensure the purpose you are using this keylogger for IS LEGAL before you install it for whatever purpose.

P.S. this is a forum, likely scanned some what regularly by bots, I would remove the e-mail address now before any spambots scan that e-mail address and add it to a load of spam mailing lists.

We're not going to email you answers...posting your email address here only gives spam-bots addresses, so congratulations. To add to what r3sistance said, questions of this nature typically aren't allowed on LQ.

Yes, I'm sure it's for "your own use", "educational purposes", etc., but we have no way of knowing this. Add to that the fact that keyloggers are a slimy piece of software no matter WHAT OS they're on.

The answer is clear as day to anybody who has even the slightest piece of common sense. In the environment I work in I have seen the negative effects of what things like keyloggers are actually capable of and so I removed the advice I gave, even tho a simple 5 second google search would EASILY turn up the correct answer to this... the OP is simply to lazy to figure out how things should be run... given the illicit activities that are VERY easy to do with such software I will leave the advice removed.

I tried searching Google for a solution, but was unable to do so. I asked my cousin, he said something about CCG, he tried some stuff, but failed.

Sure, it may seem slimy and "illegal" if thats what you wanna call it. I'm just asking for advice.

Given how such software can be used to gain access to other people's personal information and passwords by illegally monitoring them, it's an issue that is clear why advice is generally not given for.

Do you have any way of knowing the same about another software? Do you then refuse to help with it because of this?

There's a great number of another types of software which are used to gain access to personal information, but it isn't considered illegal to help with them, why refuse to help with keyloggers? Keyloggers have many uses other then stealing information.

So you can name 10 legitimate uses of Keyloggers that are not explicitly illegal, immoral or infringing on privacy which can not be done is a simpler/safer or more legitimate way? Even if it is possible, there is what... how many potential different illegal things that can be done with keyloggers. Most of which revolve around placing them on systems of un-suspecting users.

LQ is owned by Jeremy. He envisioned its goals and invests in it year by year so he sets the rules. The LQ Rules clearly state what is illegal and what is not.
In case of doubt moderators will determine the cause of action on a case by case basis. You're a guest at Linuxquestions.org. Good guests play by the rules.
Is there anything else that needs further discussion?

It's not Parental Control tho is it, it's Parental Monitoring, and be it legal or illegal it is still effectively "infringing on privacy". The Majority of websites on the Internet are PG-13 websites what means a child should be supervised below the age of 13 anyways.

I think the test here is whether LQ could---by a reasonable person---be seen as helping illegal or unethical activities. Google will find lots of info on keyloggers---LQ does not need to help.
