Angry keyboard porting

HI Everyone

I are designing an embedded application on linux. Till now Application is controlled by Infra-red Remote. Now i need to give support for USB-keyboard or infra-red keyboard. And i am very new to linux. I tried to go through documentation and available information in internet but could understand only little. I need your help in getting me the right direction.

When i connect the usb keyboard the kernel detects and displays a message as to keyboard found. but known i don't known how to proceed. I don't known whether i will require some kernel module to be loaded or change kernel configuration.

Till now my understanding is that there should be support available in the kernel which will send the keycode or scancode to some Terminal ( tty(0-7) may be ). i have checked in the proc/bus/input/event0 there is sometime garbage character printed when i press keyboard but sometime there is no character printed...

SO from here i am still searching but since i am new to linux so not able to analyse properly how to proceed. If i could get some help on how to proceed. Atleast i could get some link where the procedure for porting keyboard on embedded application is being explained.

Eagerly waiting for support Thanks for your help.
