Thumbs down Keyboard and mouse not responding in RH9

I recently los my grub in Redhat9 but managed to get it back soon with the help on these pages.... Well now i have a very peculiar problem.... My keyboard and mouse are not functioning when the GUI loads for root login and password ..... this happened when I think I let two configs of mouse remain on the same port... As i Have a custom kernel(v2.6) and the regular(v2.4) which detect the mouse as 2button and 3button respectively...........

so please send in replies

Are the KB/Mouse USB or PS/2?
Does it work in either config?
Are they listed in the xf86Config Files?

Well my key board is PS/2 (it is a circular port)..... and serial mouse
and where to check the xfree config can u specify........
