Kernel upgrade/update?? Can I ...

Yes I am a Newbie, that is why I am posting here, so if what you have to say is a smart ass comment..don't waste my time. Obviously I have been scolded before.
I am running Suse 9.3 Kernel 2.6.11.4-21.11-default. I have an ibm T43, the specs are here:

thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T43

I want to configure the APS (active protection system), and other features on the embedded security subsystem:

thinkwiki.org/wiki/Embedded_Security_Subsystem

From what I have read regarding this I need to have kernel 2.6.12 or 2.6.15. My question is can I update/upgrade my current running kernel from 2.6.11 to either of these? I have installed and configured VMware so I can use a guest op to test this. I am currently working in Iraq, so ordering books is possible, but very time consuming waiting for them to arrive, so please in response either post how to, or direct me to a web site that I can use.

Thank you, in advance for you help.
Basrah, Iraq.

You can, by getting the kernel sources and compiling them.

You may want to see if you can get the suse customised kernel sources.
you will need to enter what I call dependancy he$$, as each time the kernel version changes you have to rebuild the entire base system for it.

It is actually easier to upgrade to a newer version of your distro to get newer kernel than the build your own kernel.

Jaqui,
Thank you. I attempted to download 10.0. However, with our connecton over here it was going to take 372 hours, our power goes out several times a day, so this was not an option. I will be returning home in April and will purchase 10.0 at that time. This however, opens another set of questions. I have configured my fingerprint reader to work with 9.3, as well as numerous other programs, VMware, kde 3.5...will upgrading to 10.0 maintain my current programs and settings?

Different sub. I noticed that you live in VanBC. I used to live in Bellingham WA and spent a lot of time in BC, gaslamp dist to be specific. BC is a great city, beautiful too, I raced mountain bikes in Wistler for a while on the northwest circuit to boot. Small world I guess. Anyway thank you for your time.
