Kernel updates and kernel specific software
Recently, I upgraded my Fedora 9 kernel. Immediately after a restart, the system did not boot into the GNOME desktop. It remained on the command line.
To resolve the problem, I had to start the system using the previous working kernel, download the kernel sources, then go back into the CLI and recompile/reinstall the NVIDIA drivers.
Is it possible for these drivers, or any software that I install that depends on the kernel version, to recompiled when the kernel is upgraded? In the least, the video drivers should work.
Currently, every time I dare to update the kernel, I run the risk of having an unusable system.
Thanks,
MS
