Kernel update mandrake10.0 problem

Is there anywhere I can download kernel source updates. The reason is I cant use mandrakes update facility as it wont recognise my modem unless I install an updated driver but this driver wont work on my current kernel source.
My current source is 2.6.3-7mdk.
Its frustrating as my modem is the only thing that hasnt fully been recognised in mandrake 10.0

Do you know what kernel version and source you need? You might be able to download and install the updated kernel rpm from one of the cooker mirrors, or rpmfind.

The alternative would be to download the source from http://www.kernel.org/, or http://www.linuxhq.com/, and configure and install it manually.

Be advised option two could break things. The mandrake kernels are patched with fixes for all kinds of different problems.

good luck.

How are you gonna download it if your modem isnt' playing nice ?

A dual boot system solution that you may be able to use?

If you dig through mandrakes website while in windows, you may be able to find the location(s) of the mandrake mirrors. You should then be able to download the kernel/kernel sources that you want to an easy to find location in windows.

then boot back into mandrake and, erm, you'd probably go in through /mnt i.e. into konqueror and then to the /mnt directory to something like /mnt/windows/WINDOWS/desktop (oh and you may have to log in as root to do that) and then you should be able to open another konqueror window at /home/rsuave (or whatever your user account is) and then literally drag/drop (well move or copy) the files you need/want.

Maybe that helps a little?

John
