I make these commands:

(copied a config from /boot...)
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install

and:

debianmasiina:/# mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd-2.6.6.img 2.6.6
/usr/sbin/mkinitrd: //2.6.6: Not a directory
/usr/sbin/mkinitrd: MODULES needs to be set to none?

debianmasiina:/# mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd-2.6.6.img /lib/modules/2.6.6
/usr/sbin/mkinitrd: add_modules_dep_2_5: modprobe failed
FATAL: Module ata_piix not found.

I tried to find ata_piix module if it would be in /lib/modules/2.6.6:

debianmasiina:/boot# locate ata_piix
/usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.5/drivers/scsi/ata_piix.c
/usr/src/linux-2.6.6/drivers/scsi/ata_piix.c

Looks like it's not compiled to that directory.

Now /boot directory looks like this:

debianmasiina:/boot# ls -la
total 6907
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 1024 May 22 21:51 .
drwxr-xr-x 25 root root 4096 May 22 17:16 ..

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3624960 Apr 12 21:17 initrd.img-2.4.25-1-386
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 12288 Apr 12 21:12 lost+found

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1146752 May 22 21:44 vmlinuz-2.6.6

Notice: "0 May 22 21:50 initrd-2.6.6.img" (0 bytes). Hmm, this is hard...

Try giving it a full directory:

/sbin/mkinitrd initrd-2.6.6.img /lib/modules/2.6.6

Maybe this will help

My program is in /usr/sbin/mkinitrd so I should maybe try:

debianmasiina:/usr/src/linux# /usr/sbin/mkinitrd -o initrd-2.6.6.img /lib/modules/2.6.6
/usr/sbin/mkinitrd: add_modules_dep_2_5: modprobe failed
FATAL: Module ata_piix not found.

mkinitrd does nothing if I don't write "-o" between that command.

I installed the latest Debian/testing version of initrd-tools and now it doesn't complain about that module. Thanks for help, marghorp
