Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:01

I am using Linux 7.2 for mail server since last 5-6 years. Every time I clone the main HDD through “Ghost” software as a backup. It works at the time my original mail server goes down. But now a days it’s not working. My original hdd is working ok but when I tried with the cloned one it gives error “Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:01”. I have tried it 2-3 times with 2-3 different hdd but no success. Please help me to come out from this problem.

As in Redhat 7.2 ??? Time you upgraded if that is the case.
Is the new hard disk(s) of the same type as the original - plugged into the same controller chipset ???. If a new(er) controller (say SATA), RH 7.2 isn't going to have the support. Especially in the initrd I would think.
