Kernel panic on boot from cd?

Well i gave my friend my slack 8.1 cd the other day; and well he was booting up slack and it worked 3 times, and well i wasn't with him to install it, so I think he messed up some where along the line because now it's starting to error out on him and give him a kernel panic everytime he boots from the CD any suggestions how to fix this prob?

Yeah, have him sign up to LQ and post his errors so we can try to help him out.

Seriously though, I don't have enough information to know how to help. I'd have him boot up with his boot disk, pass root=/dev/hda1 (or whatever his actual root partition is), and then do less /var/log/message to get the error message(s) from start up. After that we might have a better starting point.

He booted up the Slack install disk three times? Why? He only needed to do it once...

Every time he boots up with the install disk (why is he running the install disk every time he turns his computer on?) he gets a kernel panic?

I'm sure there is a way to fix the problem, just not sure what the problem is.

Lol; he just got slack, and i actually found out he didn't know that much about his own computer so ... lol... i'm stepping it through it right now... I hate doing this since i'm not sitting there... God.. it's actually pretty annoying when you have to try to tell people how to browse around through linux and how to use it... I just picked up right away. Am i GENIUS!??!?!? lol. jk

thanks for the help anyway ;]
