Here is the picture of my problem. I am ALWAYS running into problems when I try to install Linux based softwares. I am installing Xubuntu 14.04 right now and facing this issue. Any possible solution guys?

Hi and welcome to LQ.

Usually you get this message when the / (root) directory documented in /etc/fstab uses a file system for which the kernel doesn't have a proper driver, either built in or provided in an initrd.

You'll get more help if you indicate what exactly you have done from the beginning.

Actually, unknown block (0,0) indicates kernel has no support for HDD controller. Just guessing here, are you using your drive(s) in AHCI mode? You should not use IDE mode in Linux.

I was using IDE mode mostly because Windows won't boot in AHCI mode. I switched back to AHCI mode and it didn't fix my problem.

Again, to help you we need to know what you were doing:
  • Did you use an ISO image and which one exactly ?
  • Provide a link to the file/ISO image you used for the installation
  • Which exact steps did you perform during installation?

I downloaded an ISO and copied it to my USB and made it bootable using this software
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/univers...easy-as-1-2-3/

I used multiple ISO's and they all don't work. I'll give you one of them.
http://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/
I used the 64 bit version.

The steps I took were pretty standard. I went into BIOS and selected the USB as my boot drive. When I clicked on any one of the options presented (Try Xubuntu, install xubuntu etc.) I'd get the error message I posted as a picture earlier.

Oh, when I switch to AHCI from IDE, I no longer get the error message with the (0,0) in it as previously mentioned by another poster.

I'm downloading it to try it myself.

Oh, and to create a bootable USB drive from an ISO file on Windows, I highly recommend rufus that is reliable, versatile and open source.
