Kernel panic - not syncing: no cpio magic

I have slackware 10.2 and have used linux for years. I have 2 machines. one with ide (works flawlessly) and another (new one) with all the latest bells and wistels, its a sata. I installed 10.2 and sata.i 2.4.31 kernel and it works. I have yet to get a 2.6.x kernel to work. I keep getting simalar errors. I have enabled sata and searched for days for an answer. can someone please help me?
thankx
Stan

Ok, I admit it. I was wrong. I noticed this link from some other forums and thought I would give it a try. I didn't understand why they would say the negative things they were about this place. I have read and watched this forum for about 3 weeks and thought I would make a post. I mean, I really need help, so why not? Well I know no one seems to post anything that would look too difficult and I actually didn't think this problem was either. I just have not dealt with sata before. Now when I post something no one can/or will answer it. I would ask if there is a more advanced forum out there but don't think I want to waste my time.
Its a pitty.
yall enjoy your forum. mean while I will look for my answers where the questions may be answered.
hmmmm I wonder if there is a LinuxAnswers.org site out there somewhere?
I'm done

You didn't post any specific error messages or hardware specifications, so it makes it very hard to help you. Your kernel configuration would also help.
