Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

I am a new Linux user and I am learning the basic things in order to be certified.
During my learning I run the command [Bfsck][/B] from root prompt with root. After answering the question with Yes I reboot my server.
Then I got following message and my server would not start.

Red Hat nash version 5.1.19.6 starting
sda: adduming drive cache: Write through
sda: adduming drive cache: Write through
mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'
setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or dirctory
setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or dirctory
setuproot: error munting /sys: No such file or dirctory
switchroot: mont failde: No such file or dirctory
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

I tried to solve with grub, root (hd0:0) and setup (hd0) but the problem would not solve.

My question is therfore how can I solve this problem. reinstalling linux is not my option.

Hi.

What does '[Bfsck][/b]' mean? Could you post the exact command you used?
It sounds like you may have trashed the root filesystem somehow.

Well, I'm not too sure what's happened, but I think your best bet would be to boot from the install CDs and do a 'repair' from the menu. That should (hopefully) get the machine bootable again.
