kernel panic error


Hi.I compiled the 2.6.8 kernel on my fedora core2 and it came up with this error:
Code:
Kernel panic:VFS .Unable to mount / FS. Unknown block(3,3)
>please help.

You need to compile in support for the root filesystem, as well as the block device that the filesystem's partition resides on.

If you compile it as a module, then you can't mount the partition until the module is loaded, and the module is stored as a file on the partition so you can't get to it without mounting the partition. So it won't work.

Edit: Reboot with your old kernel (or a rescue disk) and try again.
