Kernel Panic during boot

a friend just installed RHL 9 in a dual boot environment with WinXP, after selecting RHL in the Gub boot loader

0>Kernel Panic<: Aieee, Killing
Interrupt Handler! In Interrupt-Not Syncing

what could possibly cause this problem? is it a hardware issue or a software one?

thnx in advance

What are the messages before this? This is most likely a hardware problem (as its calling an interrupt while handling an interrupt) or a bad driver.

Qzukk is right. I had once a similar problem. Try unplugging any USB devices, as scanner and joypads and see if you can boot (my problem was the scanner once).

Thankx for the replys guys I just want to know where I can find the syntax of the error messages. Is there a log file kept by linux? Then maybe later I can post the complete logged messages.
Thnx again in advance
