Question Kernel Panic


Hi , All friends, i have recently joined this forum.


I am facing a problem with my Redhat Linux 9(2.4.20)

it's descretption is following.

VFS cannot open root device "LABEL/" or 00:00
Please append a correct "root" boot option.
Kernel Panic : VFS : Unable to mount fs on 00:00

keep it in mind,i did't upgrade mu kernel,my root/ partition in on hd05 , Please help me in this regard, bcz i have faced this problem twice time

Was everything working for awhile and then this started suddenly? If so, you need to figure out what has changed. Did you do anything to the computer (you say you haven't touched your kernel, correct)?

Can you boot off of a rescue disk and mount your partiton(s)? Does fdisk -l still show all of your partitions?

Hi dear all,
Thanks for the co-operation , i traced the problem. it was partition mistake in grub.conf. but i don't how it was possible even i have't made any changes, it was hd0,7 instead of hda,7. Again thanks for ur co-operation.

Hi all,
i solved that issue by changing the disk partition. problem was that grub was mounting wrong partition, so i change the partition. Thanks for ur co-operation.

Hi all,
i m facing a new problem. the problem is that when i try to connect to internet, then it connected . Even it is pinging my isp gateway and there DNS server is reloving the hosts into ip.

when i use the nslookup , dig or host utility, then response is good, but when i use wget utility, then host unknown error is encoutered. even this error is also encountered in Mozilla Broweser.

Can any one help me, wt is the actuall problem.
