kernel panic

ok, I am soo new to linux that I can't even get it installed. I am very proficient in win98 thru xp, but this is killing me! I have downloaded tinylinux and when I try to put in the second floppy, I get a kernel panic error. What does that mean? What else can I try?

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Kernel panic means a serious problem. It'd help to know if (and which) messages were printed just before the kernel panic one (just before it there's usually reason why it failed).

Have you checked the cd? You have probably downloaded an ISO image and burned it. Have you calculated the MD5 of the image (transmission errors are possible) using md5summer (md5summer.org, Windows program) and compared it with the one provided on the FTP site you got the image from?

From the Tiny Linux sourceforge page:
Quote:
TinyLinux is a small Linux Distribution for i386 derived from SuSE 6.4. In the base version it just contains the things which are necessary to run Linux. Therefore the base package is rather small and requires approx. 7MB.
IMHO, if you have little or no experience of Linux then you would be hard pressed to find a more difficult distro to try and start with. Suggest you go here and check out something like knoppix, mandrake or suse. Give yourself a chance!
