Angry kernel panic

hi all....

I am facing problem in linux booting... I am using RH 9... While selecting LINUX from boot loader my system gets stuck and it shows a message at the end of line as follows:-

kernel panic: no iniit found try passing init= option to kernel

Even i have tried to upgrade it, but it shows following message:-

Error:
/dev/hda9 cannot be mounted

file system type is invalid....

I want to recover everything without reinstalling it.... because i have saved some important file in my user directory....

PLzzzzz help me out.....

thanks in advance...............
