Kernel-module Version Mismatch !!!

KERNEL-MODULE VERSION MISMATCH !!!

Hi ,

i am trying to install RHEL3(Redhat Enterprise Version 3) using a kickstart diskette on my thinkpad and a tokenring pc card via the network.
While using the PCMCIA Driver Diskette to load the network driver i get the following warning ,

Warning : kernel-module version mismatch
/tmp/ibmtr_cs.o was compile for kernel version 2.4.20.8BOOT while this kernel is version 2.4.21-9.ELBOOT
/tmp/ibmtr_cs: unresolved symbol mod_timer_R1f13d309
/tmp/ibmtr_cs: unresolved symbol _netdev_watchdogf_up_Re9e1a04e
etc etc etc
* failed to insert /tmp/ibmtr_cs.0

RHEL3 does not support ibmtr_cs.o.
Now my question is can i recompile ibmtr_cs.o for the new kernel ? if so how to do it ? where can i find related documentation/help ?
Does recompiling the driver mean that the OS kernel will get a new version name ??? I mean i want my RHEL3 system to retain 2.4.21-9.ELBOOT version. Am i making sense ?

Please help !!!
spk

This is going to be vague 'cause lunch is almost over...

Yes you can keep the version number (kind of risky, but doable and should work)

Also, the Kernel Docs (or the Kernel How-to) will tell you how to do everything you are asking...

Sorry about being so vague =(
