this is a debian system and you want rpms ?

luqman 02-18-2005 02:20 AM

Yeah because i have installed the rpm in past as well.

amosf 02-18-2005 03:06 AM

My suggestion would be a generic kernel.org kernel in a tarball...

luqman 02-18-2005 03:18 AM

Thankx a lot amosf

and please also tell me that by installing the kenel i will get the kernel-source rpm installed or i shall have to instal it manually.

coz i need to get kernel-source-2.4.25.040218.i386.rpm installed and i couldn't google it :(

Well, I can only suggest what I would do, but I don't know your skills.

The latest most secure 2.4 kernel is 2.4.29

I would install the source for that and then compile ans install that kernel if it was me as I do this all the time. If you have no experience compiling a kernel and intalling it then you need to read up on that aspect.

Downloading the source would give you the kernel source and you could then configure that and compile it and install the kernel binary. It is not difficult, but not easy the first time.

Can someone here give a good kernel compile and install page?

The other way would be to use the debian install tools, but I am not familiar with debian enough to help.

The latter is for a deb package type kernel install though.
