kernel headers & /lib/modules/uname -r/build

In order to do a 'make' on a module I am told that the kernel headers must be under /lib/modules/2.6.27.9-01/build.

edhe@hebrews:/lib/modules/2.6.27.9-01/build$ ls
arch COPYING debian firmware init kernel Makefile Module.symvers REPORTING-BUGS security usr vmlinux.o
block CREDITS Documentation fs ipc lib mm net samples sound virt
conf.vars crypto drivers include Kbuild MAINTAINERS modules.order README scripts System.map vmlinux

Are these the 'kernel headers'?

/lib/modules/uname -r/build is a symbolic link to the actual kernel source location, that is /usr/src/linux-2.6.27.9-01 in your case.
You need kernel sources if you want to compile drivers for devices.
The kernel headers are located in /usr/src/linux-2.6.27.9-01/include

Regards

I don't have a /usr/src/linux-2.6.27.9-01/include.
Instead:

edhe@hebrews:/lib/modules/2.6.27.9-01$ ls -alh
total 1.8M
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 1.0K 2008-12-15 14:12 .
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 1.0K 2008-12-15 14:12 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 2008-12-15 14:12 build -> /home/edhe/Desktop/linux-2.6.27.9

It seems that you've downloaded a vanilla kernel and extracted in your desktop. Have you compiled and installed that kernel? Whats is the output of:
Code:
uname -r
If you're not sure what to do, it's better to install the kernel-sources of your distro using its package manager.
