Welcome to the board!
Why would you want to read general docs when there are specific ones for you distro?
I run ASP-Linux. The concept should be the same.
identify your cpu
ensure your setup is compatible with the new kernel
download 3-5 files, depending on your requirements, usually 3, *headers*, *source* & kernel*
log in as root & open terminal
rpm -K --nogpg *rpm (check md5sum)
rpm -Uvh *headers* *source*
ignore header errors
rpm -ivh kernel* *ibc* *pcmcia*
ls /boot -l
vi /etc/lilo.conf (reflect the new kernel)
Do Not copy & paste. It will NOT work. At least, do ls and copy the names.
