kernel compilation: few doubts regarding the various kernels
Hello all,
yesterday i recompiled redhat 9 ( 2.4.20-8 kernel) i messed up everything. Then using the 1st cd of that distribution i was trying to load the kernel again. I found kernel rpms there......they were 4-5 in numbers kernel-2.4.20-8.athlon.rpm kernel-2.4.20-8.i586.rpm kernel-2.4.20-8.i686.rpm kernel-BOOT-2.4.20-8.i386.rpm now i was in dilemma which one i should have opted ??? i've pIII 600MHz system. Intel 810 chipset ( i hope ) regards |
use the i386 kernel, as most of redhat isnt optimized so you will not do much good optimizing your kernel. you could use the i586, but like it said, it would do no good really. just dont use the athlon one.
