Hi,
I used the patch availabe with the bootsplash package for Slackware available at www.linuxpackages.net made by pcxz. The patch actually said at quite a few places that the hunk failed
My machine is working beautifully with the old config. (I did back up the old kernel config)there are no probs with the old config.

If the patch failed to be applied then that's most likely your problem. You sure the patch you used is for the 2.6.9 kernel? If it's not, then you'll most likely have to manually add the patch to get it to work.
Yeah, that's not going to work. The linux kernel changes drastically from one version to the next thereby the source code within it also changes. The patch program works by finding a certain area of the source file and adding the code in that spot. If that area changes or moves then the patch program usually has no idea how to apply the patch so it aborts. You'll need to wait until someone updates the patches for the 2.6.9 kernel, manually apply them yourself to the kernel sources, or use a kernel that a patch is available for.
Thanks DaHammer...
I guess I will have to wait for someone to work...on the patch...
in the meantime... I am still using 2.6.9 on Slack 10 and that runs beautifully without any problems...
neways.... thanks a lot for the help...to you and masand too....
