kdesu help
using debian never ran into this before...
if I select synaptic from menu (or any program that needs root privellages) I get the kdesu dialog box asking for password (roots password) so I enter it (roots password) and it tells me its incorrect..HOWEVER its not incorrect ...if I start synaptic or anything else from cli using su no prob.. |
This might be a silly question, but when you right click on it in the kmenu and go to edit item, is the run as different user set to root?

I had this issue when I was using an /etc/suauth that allowed me to su with OWNPASS. If I used my own password, there would be no problem.
are you using a custom suauth (or possibly /etc/sudoers)? |
Actually this is a bug in kdesu latest package in Debian as far as I can see. I'm having the same issue as well and no I didn't change anything.

I also began having the same problem after an upgrade. su from shell works fine, but kdesu won't accept the correct root password. I'm not smart enough to figure out why. I can su to root and run synaptic well, but clicking on synaptic on the kde menu brings up the kdesu window asking for the root password, but it does not accept the correct password.

Yup. Exactly the same issue here as well. I guess it's a bug in kdesu Debian package.

I'm having the same problem...Debian etch.
Get the latest (unstable) kdebase-bin package from packages.debian.org (use the Purdue mirror). That fixes it. |
