kdenlive dual monitor?

I have integrated intel graphics on my laptop. I use kdenlive with ubuntu studio under xfce, though I could use gnome or lxde if necesarry. I was wondering if anyboyd could give me a simple guide to how to get kdenlive to use the external monitor as the video monitor? does it use xrandr? do I need to edit xorg.conf?

thanks!

The only thing that I can think of is to use a docking station. That way you can set the built-in agp to start, and the docking station video out as second. You may have to go into BIOS and set agp as first video.

I do this on servers and workstations, but I have never done it on a notebook. Let us know how it works. I use notebooks with bad screens as servers, since they are dying anyway, and I've had one going for 5 years now.

Now, back to BIOS. If you want kdenlive to use the external first, then go into BIOS and set the pci as first video. That way, even if you have a bad screen, you can still use the machine.

Sorry if I was unclear. I don't want it to use the external monitor as a main display. I want my desktop and everything like normal to be on the laptop display, but the kdenlive video monitor to output to the external monitor. It says that it's pssoible on the website, just not how. I've had xrandr up and running on the laptop, but I'm not sure if that's how you use kdenlive's dual monitor feature.
