KDE won't start...

Hi, i'm new to linux and i just installed Mandrake, however when i tried to log on to KDE i got an error MSG>>>
There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was:
Could not read network connection list.
/root/.DCOPserver_locolhost__0
Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running.

does anyone has a clue that's going on ?
TIA

You say "when I log in to KDE"...
When the computer boots up, do you have to "startx"? Or is it trying to go directly to KDE (usually the default thing it does if you just installed it without setting anything different)?
Could not read network connection list... What network? What kind of machine are you on??
I never heard of this dcop, but... *is* it running?
What kind of a newbie are you? Have you used computers before? Only Macs or only Windows? Or do you know how to use UNIX and type commands in the command line? (needed to see if this dcop thingie is running)...
I'm wondering about this network thing.
My machine doesn't need any network anything to start the GUI (graphical user interface).
Maybe it's looking for something that doesn't exist, or is looking in the wrong place.
We need some more info :)

Foo!

lol

Yeah i've been using Windows all my life, but i know some basics about UNIXXXX.
Err i have two NIC one is on board and one is a intel giga bit card.
The error msg showed up after i enter the log-in with the choice of KDE to start. Says mandrakelinux login on top.
i know run gnome with no problem, i tried to man the dcopserver but nothing showed up.

EDIT: the computer starts up with a log-on gui and let you choose which GUI you want to run or failsafe which is just comm line

does the ps command show anything called dcop running?
dcop wouldn't have a man page, I wouldn't think, esp if it was a Mandrake thing.
Is there some way to see what Gnome is doing when you choose it? (to see if it's running something and working...)

dcopserver is KDE's desktop communication manager
Can you can log in with gnome without issues?
Does your home directory exist and is it local?
I'm experiencing a similar error, but only when I use KDE and an NFS mounted home directory.
/tmp/.ICE-unix is owned by root and world-writable (another post I read asked about that)

One more thing to check...

My dcopserver problem went away after adding /usr/X11R6/bin to my users' path
