KDE to GNOME
how do i change from kde to gnome from the command line?
as of right now i log in with my username and password then i type in "startX" and it automatically defaults to kde is there a way that i can get to gnome or other GUI for that matter from the command line. remember i dont want the GUI way of changing seeing as i am trying to become mor familiar with the command line and not the GUI just wondering Thanks Pat |
It would help if you told us what your distro is.
You should have 'switchdesk' on your system. Just run it and choose whichever desktop you want to use. (if you run Slackware - at the command line (as root, of course) type in 'xwmconfig' and choose kde) |
sorry i use MDK 9.2

You should be able to do this from the control center (or centre ;)) - unfortunately, I use neither Gnome nor Mdk, so can't really be more specific.
Try the switchdesk command. |
i tryed both these xwmconfig and switchdesk and they both say bad command or something like that
i type 'su' then the password and then i typed 'xwmconfig' and 'switchdesk' both dont work maybe it is just me i am a newb so i dont nkow |
Well, xwmconfig is a Slackware command (afaik), so it wouldn't work. Do you have KDE installed on your system?
BTW, there is no shame in doing things via the gui - you can always switch to cli by using ctl-alt-F1,2,3,4,etc. I use the gui all the time ;) |
yea by default i go into the kde
but it is more fun knowing that i know the comand line |
isn't it startkde or startgdm?
