KDE prompt for root access won't recognize password
I use Kanotix and have for about a year now. There are two problems. /usr/sbin/netcardconfig asks for a root password, but won't accept it. I have changed it in Konsole with the command passwdand it still won't. the reason I have to keep going in there is that when I reboot it won't enable at reboot. When I was able to get in there, it keep repeating "interface enabled. Auto-enable at reboot?" I click on "yes" and it keeps repeating until I click on "no." Has enyone else had to fix this problem? How did you do it?
Erm I can't really help, and although kanotix is based on debian unstable/testing, just in case it's a kanotix "thing" rather than a general or debian "thing", have you tried looking or asking here ???
I think it's a general kde problem. Those folks down at Kanotix don't have the answer. I know that the developer of the network card configuration is Klaus Knopper. That would actually make it a Knoppix thing too. I am upgrading to kernel 2.6.18 anyway. I just was curious about this bug. I've never had a problem where the solution to one is blocked by the bug of another. Thanks John.
