Question KDE or any GUI interface not being seen

Hey ppl,
I Originally had Mandrake 9.1 and decided to move to Red Hat 9 simply because my KDE, Gnome or anyother GUI Desktop would not show up. But even with Red Hat 9. It does the same thing. I installed it without any problems or disruptions. After the installation it only would boot up in the console mode. I'd type in the command to run KDE from the root directry but it wont do it. Just stay in console. So i then tried it with my old HDD which is 1.4Gb and it worked fine. So is it my current HDD or is it an error on installation? my system specs are as followed:

Pentium 4 2.00 GHz @ 2.40 Ghz
ATi Radeon 9600 Pro 256Mb
80 Gb Seagate Barricuda 5200 rpm (Holds my Windows XP)
6.4 Gb HDD (Currently has Red Hat 9 installed atm)
512 Mb DDR PC2100 Ram
Sound Blaster Live! Sound Card

Would appreciate the help.

is a little vague. What error messages did you get? Usually, after typing "startx" you will get a few screens of stuff. You can view it afterwards by
less /var/log/XFree86.log (or similar filename)
