Unhappy KDE menu editor does not save changes

I'm unable to add any entries to the main menu in the KDE environment. When I add the entries (using KDE menu editor) and click save, a window says that its updating. But when I exit KDE menu editor and look to see if its added, it never is. I tried adding program shortcuts as root, but no luck. The menu also does not update after a reboot. I read similar threads that suggested to run the editor from the terminal (kmenuedit), but it still didn't save. I'm trying to add a link to Zsnes. For the command text, I tried zsnes and also entered the binary path (/usr/local/bin/zsnes). How can I save my changes to the Main menu ?

I'm running Fedora core 2. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
Dan

~/home/<user>/.kde/share/applnk/
and called it mine...........I opened the dir and made a "link to application" and just point it to what I want to open.......

I have no idea why, but the developers of Fedora Core decided that they didnt want you to be able to edit the gnome or kde menu. you can edit it manually though, by altering/adding/deleting the text files in /usr/share/applications/
just look at the existing files in there for an idea of the syntax - it's pretty easy to understand.

Success with .kde directory

I couldn't find any text files in /usr/share/applications/ (only binary exe's), so I did what "freakyg" said and placed a application link in /home/<user>/.kde/share/applink/. It seems to have auto updated my configuration and now my shortcut is in the main menu. The Menu editor even shows it in the directory tree. I'm very glad that this is resolved. Thank you much...
But, I can't help to be curious as to how to get the KDE menu editor to save entries.

thanks
Dan
