Have you installed KDE headers? If answer is yes, download the .deb package from the kubuntu's repository. Once downloaded the file, move to the dir where the file stays(all this procedure with the terminal):

Code:
cd dirwherethefileis
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
OR, search quanta on repository:

Code:
sudo apt-cache search quanta
It will give some results, find the package you want to install and do it with:

Code:
sudo apt-get install nameofpackageyoufoundfirst
I wrote * because i don't know the complete and perfect name of Quanta. Listen to me, you're using Linux, your PC won't explode if you wrong a software installation, seen that you're using Linux, start to use that, download packages, install them, use google, search, use encyclopedia, find & destroy Do not worry.

When you install something in a pc, the SO copies the files from the program you are installing into the folder you wnat to install. The difference between linux and windows is that on windows, each program has its own folder(By default on c:\program files\whatever). so, lets say you want to install a game, the setup will copy and create some files on the directory. if you wnt to delete a game, just delete its directory.

on linux, each type of file is copied in a diferente dir. so, if you install something, the libraries usually go to /usr/lib, the binaries to /bin, the configuration files to /etc, and so on. here is the problem: if you want to delete a program, you have to keep track of where each file was copied to. this is what the package mannager does.

but if you dont want to use the package mannager, you can download the tar.gz for example. the only diference is that you will have to run the configure script, make and then sudo make install to install the program. if you want to remove, youll have to use sudo make uninstall.

i recommend you to use the apt until you are familiar with linux.

if you didnt do anything with the a.tar.gz file, you can delete it, and find the program you want with apt.
