KDE icons

Hello,

I am trying to install some KDE icons, I been trying to follow the instructions given by KDE-Look, but they were not working. Please help.

Quote:
How to install a new icon theme

# Open the KDE-Menu and start the Control Center
# Click on "Look and Feel" and "Icons"
# Browse to the location of the new icon theme by clicking the small folder button
# Click on "Install New Theme" to add the new icons
# Click "Apply"
# Have fun! :-)

Whether I choose a pic (png) or tar.gz/tar.gz/zip, it will give me this message:

The file is not a valid icon theme archive. Please help.

make sure the the installation folder is not corrupt, if you post the link where you got the icons from someone may check them out to see if they are valid

I too am trying to install an icon theme, this one, and am following the same instructions with, sadly, the same result. "The file is not a valid theme archive."

I am running Debian Etch with KDE 3.4.2

Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Much thanks,
eek.

Are you guys untarring the theme file first?

I untarred the icon theme, and I got the same error message you guys did.

When i didn't untar it, the theme installed.

fwiw. i'm on FC2.

peace.

Top of the morning plain6,

I have tried to use it as is: 28773-other-apps.tar.gz, and then without the gzip suffix and then again without either the gzip or tar suffix as follows:

eric@linuxbox:~/Desktop$gzip -df 28773-other-apps.tar.gzip

eric@linuxbox:~/Desktop$tar -xf gzip 28773-other-apps.tar

In either case I still get the same error message. I am opening control center -> Appearance & Themes -> Theme Manager -> Icons -> Install New Theme.

I am using Etch KDE 3.4.2

Thanks for helping,
Eric.

I tried to install the same theme that you downloaded, and I got the same error message as your getting. I noticed under the description of the icons that it wasn't a complete icon theme. I wonder if that has any bearing on why it doesn't install on either one of our machines. My guess is no. But I really like that icon set so I'm going to play around with it to see if I have any luck.

If you have any luck with them, let me know.

peace

revenge,
I previewed the archived file and all I see are icons. So I'm thinking that the "theme" is more like a collection of icons and not a directly installable theme. I still like this collection, so I may try to figure out an easy work-around. Sorry I couldn't help.

peace
