KDE Distro's

Hey guys

quick question, is there any distro out there that keeps up to date with the latest KDE releases. that isnt rolling release

Ok basically. something similiar to ubuntu. were its stable. updated casually. but has the latest Desktop Environements as there released. like

*trys to figure out how to explain this lol*

Kubuntu has KDE 4.7.1, but were already long past that. with 4.8, and id love to try 4.8 but kubuntu take a very long time until its in a repo. and manual installations on ubuntu bases. can be abit of a pain compared to archlinux. were its quite simple with pacman

Though the problem is. archlinux is consistantly updated. and requires it in a way. i want something that has the usability/up to date software similiar to arch, maybe 1 or 2 mini versions behind. but thats stable and that doesnt require an internet connection

So i can take it around on my laptop. and use KDE 4.8 with stability

Hello,

You can always add a repository for what you need. I'm not an Ubuntu user myself but a quick Google search turned up this:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu. You can add the Backports repo to get newer software or even Beta Backports.

Keep in mind though that if you use a version that hasn't been thoroughly tested of any software outside from what you have in stable repos, you might encounter yourself with broken stuff that you'll need to take care of searching forums, fixing stuff, ...

You cannot have the best of both worlds, the latest stuff and stability. That's why there's such a lag between stable and 'testing', everything needs to be tested over and over again before considered stable.

Kind regards,

Eric

Fedora 16 KDE spin has KDE 4.7.4 at the moment and it's pretty stable. You can add KDE 4.8 repo too and try it; http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/rdieter/kde48/

This is what happened today. I am using Kubuntu 11.10 and I manually added the backport repo like 3 days ago and upgrade to KDE 4.8 and I loved it.
So this morning I fire up my Kubuntu box and I got the upgdate manager saying that upgrades were available for my computer, Guess what these upgrades where? that was the oficial kubuntu repo upgrading KDE so I got my desktop upgraded to KDE 4.8 for a second time.

If I knew that was going to happen I wouldnt add the back port repo myself (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports)

Here is the link anyway http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-sc-4.8.0
