KDE Desktop Issues

Hi

Two questions:

1. My desktop shows me my 2 mounted CD Drives, how can i remove this
icon from the desktop. (when i right click on it i i only have 'unmount' and 'properties')

2. Drag - whenever i drag an icon on my desktop and release the mouse the icon
only gets moved if i dragged it a certain distance, about a centimeter or even more. that
is, if I only drag the icon a centimeter it doesnt move. how can I fix this?

Thanks all,

This is in kde 3.2
KDE menu ---> Settings ---> Control Center
Click on Desktop ----> Behavior
You will see three tabs at the top on the right-side window.
Click Device Icons
Whatever is checked is displayed on the desktop.

Right Click on the Desktop
Choose Icons
Click align to grid

see if that fixes it. If not, click align again. Try lining up vertically to see if that snaps it out of its funk. I've had problems with that sometimes, and it just takes a little clicking around and rearranging to break it's funk. Hope this helps.

Thanks...

1 worked perfectly.

I'm still having problems with the dragging though. The allignment doesnt help.
It just moves my icons to an alligned position, I'm still unable to drag my Icons
less than 1.5 centimeters.

Ideas anyone?

P.S - This forum really helped me get started with my linux... so thanks a lot
to everybody

what happend when you go into the controll center or desktop setting wizzard and set
the distance to move before drag to a smaller number of pixels ? (maybe 1)

does that fix it.. it should do !

(that is a delibrate feature of kde to stop you accidently moving the icon a little dureing double clicking)

The drag distance setting only sets from what offset KDE thinks that you want to drag.

That means that the icon 'becomes the transparent draggable' ofter you move it the determined number of pixels. As for actually moving it, that doesnt change anything.

If i set it to 1 pixel the drag option just shows up for every tiny move but I'm still unable to move the icon small distances.

any other suggestions?

thanks
