KDE 4 apps in KDE3.5
Hi all,
I just installed kde4, but don't really like it: it's buggy and the menus have been dumbed down to the point where I can't seem to be able to do much without editing the configuration files themselves. However, there are 2 things I very much like about kde 4 and would like to use in kde 3.5: 1. Dolphin with the "vertical panes view", similar to OS X's finder. 2. kwin's added effects such as expose (or do they call it present?). But in kde 3.5., the older version of dolphin comes up if I type dolphin in a terminal, and the kwin effects don't work. Is there a way to get these effects in 3.5? Thanks! no one? Sorry if that's a stupid question, but I can't seem to get these to get in KDE 3.5...

Stuff that is written for KDE4 is unlikely to work with KDE3.
Stuff that was written for KDE3 may work with KDE4. Same as "I have win98, but why can't I run this program that works just fine on vista?" That's just the way it is. Think about it. |
use kdm4 and the kicker of kde-3.5 and adjust the menu items.

You could give D3lphin a try. I used 0.9 some time ago and it was functional. 0.9.2 seems to be the latest version.

You also can try ermine (http://magicErmine.com) or statifier (http://statifier.sf.net) to pack some of the KDDE4 applications with ll their dependencies and then use them on your KDE3.5
