kde 3.2 upgrade error.

I am currently running suse 9.0 personal on an Amd 1800+ 256mbram, and 128 mb graphics card, and the sound is ac97 compatible and integrated to my motherboard, after downloading all of the rpm's off of kde.org, i logged in as root, and in my terminal i opend it in the directory where the rpm's were stored, and typed "yast --i *.rpm" after about half an hour, it said installation sucessful. i rebooted, and awaited the goodness, but when i rebooted, and the kde 3.2 began to load up, it didnt display my wallpaper till after the boot, and then gave me an error about my sound card being missing, or something to do with the arts... im at work so i don't have acess to the logs or i would post those, but does anyone have some advice on what to do to get my sound to work?

and also, how to speed up the boot process?

Thanks in advance,
Ross Cochran.

It shoud have been better if you had started in failsafe mode to do that, that's the way I did it, rebooted into failsafe mode logged in as root and run the command yast2 --install *.rpm
If you can try to do that again and see if it works

Forgot to add, as far as I know SuSE's startup process is kinda slow, it has happened to many people I know with different processors.
