KDE 3.0 Upgrade - Do I need All of It

Hi

My representation just got their asses kicked for the second time. The World Cup is all over for me. I figure I will have more time now to sit in front of my machine and get frustrated in this oh so much batter a way. OK so i saw suse 8 running KDE 3 and must say I was Blown away. Me wanna. I am running Mandrake 8.2 (or rather its mandrake thats running me). I still have no clue about linux and Im sorry to say that a lot of explications peeps here give meare over my head. I have a long way to go with this unix´s offspring but im willing to try. Anyway I found the files on kde.org. What I want to know is do I have to download all of it. I´m still stuck with a modem connection so whenever i have to download something bigger then oh say 5mb i start sweating and my eyes starts twiching. OK if it is not nessesery to download it all please let me knoe whitch ones do i need (am i making sense)

The good news is you found one of the places to download the rpm files, the bad news is that you will need ALL the packages except for the ones that have "-devel-" in the middle of the file name. But that's not such bad news :) .

Go to this Mandrake site for some install instructions. There are other instructions available if for some reason these don't work. I know that I ended up using rpm, not urpmi.

As you install, you will encounter some dependencies (ya gotta love RPM), but the packages are all on your Mandrake 8.2 CDs. Some are a little difficult to figure out, for instance when I was trying to install the nsplugins package, it kept demanding that libXm.so.2 be installed first. I finally found that file in the lesstif- ... package. You may or may not encounter the specific deps that my install had.

Now that I have KDE 3.0, I won't go back :D !!
