Kali Linux: Hard disk manual partitioning on Macbook Air
 

Hello everyone,
I hope you are having a good time!
My name is Alex and I am new to this forum. I have some questions which I really need your help.
I am going to install Kali Linux on my new Macbook Air. I have followed all the steps mentioned from Kali's webpage (http://docs.kali.org/installation/ka...install-on-mac), but I get stuck at the manual disk partitioning option. I plan to wipe all the data available on my intergrated SSD (it has 256GB of space) and create 3 partitions, which are:
swap partition (4GB)
/ partition (100GB) - I am going to install a lot of Kali's tools
/home partition (150GB) - I do not plan to store a bunch of My personal files on this machine though
Am I missing a /boot partition? Do I still need it or even other important partitions?
Please help me solve my problems. Thank you very much indeed!

NB Before you proceed any further and create a very expensive, unbootable doorstop, I strongly recommend that you create a bootable Recovery Drive:

I know the following instructions are for dual-booting Kali (or Ubuntu) and OS X, but they will give you a greater appreciation of the current and later partitioning schemes etc:

The latter is probably out of date with regard to refind because SIP needs to be disabled on recent Macs.

I would use the existing Mac Disk Utility to create existing partitions before choosing Manual in your Kali instructions.

I believe that you need to create 4 partitions for Kali:
boot
root
swap
home

First off
WHY???
Why Kali? Secondly, why are you going to install it vs running it live? Thirdly, why on earth would you buy a new Macbook Air only to wipe it and install Linux, especially Kali? Do you know what Kali is? Do you know that it's not really supposed to be installed in the first place? It's supposed to be run in a live environment for specific, targeted, penetration testing by security professionals. When you're done, you shut down the live instance, and boot back into your actual OS.

I did think about running Kali "live" from an USB, but I prefer a full performance of Kali installed on a SSD, not an USB (I have heard about issues users face when try to perform an update in an USB. By the way, I would love to stick with Kali than other operating systems because I am studying Network Security. I have been running Kali on VMware for a year but my Windows laptop was brought to a museum (well, it was old!)
