Kali Linux 1.1.0 Debian stuck at shutting down.

Hi,
This has never happened before. My system has been stuck while shutting down for almost 6 hours now. After clicking the shutdown button, the top bar and bottom bar on the screen disappeared and now all i can see is my wallpaper, the computer icon and my pointer, cant move anything. What can I do to avoid doing a hard shutdown?

Hit CTRL + ALT + F1 and log in as root. This will bring you into a terminal window outside of the GUI. Then type shutdown -h now.

I suggest though looking at some logs before you shutdown. There is likely a reason, and not a good one, that your system is not shutting down when you click "shut down" in X.

REISUB?

I'm not sure if it is enabled in Kali though.

Macs unfortunately do not have the SysRq button therefore i can not possibly use REISUB, as it requires ALT+SYSRQ+ typing in "REISUB". Unless there is an alternative to the SysRq button for a Macbook Pro Mid2009 Unibody?
