k3b won't burn
 

Hi,I have SuSE 10 and can not get k3b to burn a cd/r or rw. I have even tried downloading another version but it didn't work. . I noticed on the downloaded version that it had a k3b set-up button that I can't find on the suse supplied one? I have two drives, cd/dvd drive and a writer drive, in yast I notice they are displayed twice

Is this correct?
when I click the button to burn, it says "writing" or "preparing data" but it never does either. I have tried running it from root kdesu kb3 but no joy there either.

I would suggest you reboot to your SuSE install CD, go through the New Installation routine, but choose Repair Installed System (several suboptions). Yast then will also check and repair your fstab (e.g. remove incorrect entries). Your system should only show two entries, not four. After running Yast, reboot and look if you now have two (one hdd and one hdc, I mean :-) ). It is quite possible that your problem is more difficult to solve, but it can't hurt to try this one.

Hi, I ran the repair and got "following devices con not be mounted /dev/hda1/ problematic"
partitions show as:
/dev/hda 76 mb
/dev/hda1 56GB windows
/dev/hda2 20GB Linux
/dev/hda5 5.8GB
/dev/hda6/ 1.00GB swap
/dev/hda7/ 13GB

It still shows 4 devices in Yast CD-ROM Drives

This most certainly does not look right: look at the reported partitions: hda = 76 GB = hda1 + 2 = already 76 GB! What are the other partitions 5, 6, 7? Do they live under an extended Linux partition hda2? (I don't even know if that is possible). How did they get there? Yast would not suggest such a scheme at setup, more something like hda2 linux swap 1 GB and the remainder hda3 linux native with reiserfs.

Hi I understand the read out to be, hda 76GB is the main hdd, hda1 56GB is the windows section, hda2 20GB is the partition allocated to Linux, would I be right in assuming linux needs to split the area it uses into 3 partitons, one for applications and operating system another for swap and one for your own files? they are /dev/hda5 5.8 GB, /dev/hda6 1GB swap and /dev/hda7 13.7 GB, total 20GB . any ideas as I need a burner. I just tried a live Ubuntu cd and it seemed to find it no problem.

Hi can anyone help with this problem, I get this message when I run the K3b set-up:

Writing device OPTORITE - CD-RW CW4002 is automounted.
Automounting can cause problems with CD/DVD writing, especially with rewritable media. Although it might all work just fine it is recommended to disable automounting completely for now.
Solution: Replace the automounting entries in /etc/fstab with old-fashioned ones.

Q, how do I disable automounting and how do I edit /etc/fstab, and what are the old-fashioned ones?
also each time after trying to burn a cd it will not re-open if I close the program down, it just gets as far as the flash screen, Thanks Adrian
Just found it copies from CD to CD but it can't be closed down?
