K3b and dual-layer DVD

I have an LG dual-layer DVD recorder seen as hdc: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: ATAPI 40X DVD-ROM DVD-R-RAM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)

When i insert a DVD dual layer in order to find DVD capacity and write speed, K3b give this error:
k3b: ERROR: (K3bDevice:evice) Unable to do inquiry.

How can i fix it?

P.S. This is my LG: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Revi...rticleId=11079

have you double checked to make sure k3b is looking at /dev/hdc for the device? you may also wish to use these tools, as i am not sure k3b supports dual layer writing:

http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/

that page has a link to the package you can download and compile; it also has an enormous document on how to use the tools. the enormous document is on the main web page.

i hope i could help! :-)

I wrote many e-mails to Sebastian Trueg and he said that probaably my DVD recorder does not support -R dual layer DVD.
This is probably true, but i am not sure about DVD -R 16X.
Why K3b only support 4X writing speed? And it support 8X for 8X DVDs?
Could it be a kernel problem? I am using 2.6.15.6 and K3b 0.12.15,
What do you think about?
Thank you.
