just receive my ubuntu cd 8.04?

i have windows vista on my hd already

my question is

how would i go about making my pc able to dual boot both?

Just start the ubuntu installer, it will install GRUB, which is a menu that will allow you to select windows or linux at boot time.

Or course, you'll need to free up some space on your drive for Ubuntu. Although the installer should propose to do that for you, you may want do so manually. Not strictly required, though. If you do, use the gparted livecd before you install Ubuntu.
