Unhappy Just installed RH 7.1, where do I start?

Hello to all!

I have just installed redhat 7.1 and have no clue what to do next. I have absolutely no idea where to go from here. Can any one make any seggestions?

What about a really secure DNS sever? to much at first?

Thanks for the input.

Do you have all your peripherals working yet?

The first thing you need to do is to get all your peripherals working

For your printer, use printool. It is fairly intuitive.
For your modem, use kppp dialer
Test your system to see if your HD(s) and CD(s) are working
Next, you should read everything you are interested in at

The Linux documentation project
The RedHat Web Page
Also, you should go to a bookstore and get a manual: I like Red Hat Linux 7 UNLEASHED , by Ball and Pitts, et al. ISBN 0-672-31985-3

I assume you are using a GUI, probably Gnome. I prefer KDE.

Don't know what packages you want to use, but just start clicking on various choices to see what happens.

When, not if, you get in trouble, take notes, define the problem clearly and post it on the net for help. The guys at this forum are very helpful.

linux is pretty secure from the start, but yeah putting Bastille on it would increase that, but it's not all that necessary IMHO, i think there's a www.bastillelinux.com but i'm not sure. it'll be on rpmfind.net if nowhere else. might be on your distro cd's, as it conmes with mandrake 8.0
