okay so do they both have Samba installed by default~???

Or how can I check if Samba is installed~?

Also , how do I change permissions on a user~???

Where are users located~???

I cant find it on my newly installed Debian distro in VirtualBox

I don't think there is any such file in debian. I would guess that it is .bash_profile you are looking for.

i dont think you guys understand.
some schools/certification need RH9 even though it is old.
so you should not sugjust otherwise unless you KNOW using another distro is fine to use.

If any school is requiring Red Hat 9 then something is fundementally wrong, RH9 is over 5 years old now and I am fairly sure it doesn't have native/proper SATA support (could be wrong here tho but it would mean it won't work on most modern systems), it's going to have been almost 4 years since any security fixes or software patches were released meaning such a system could be open to any number of exploits that have all been fixed in later releases of certain software...

As far as I am aware most schools won't have anything related to Linux or Unix until college/university level... I am aware that some do... but it's not that common. As for reinstallation of linux... not shockingly it's not exactly hard to upgrade 3 computer labs with *nix machines... can far more then easily be done over a week during the holiday periods... after all schools get long holiday periods.
