Hey, I just installed Fedora core on a freinds computer because she wanted to try it out. It's a PII with 64 megs of ram and an old 6 gig HDD, beyond that I don't know. (and it was running the original install of 98 still before being formatted)

Either way for whatever reason within X windows its running really slow. Almost unusably slow.

Is there anything I can try to speed it up that I may not have tried?

otherwise, if more information on the computer is needed I can check reasonably easily.

I installed the default desktop installation package for fedora and lowered the resolution and number of colours, other then that its pretty much all default.

do you know what WM you are running?

You need more RAM. Just look at official memory requirements:

Minimum for text-mode: 64MB
Minimum for graphical: 192MB
Recommended for graphical: 256MB

Get an older version of Red Hat or get another distro.
